I didn’t get it off completely, but within a couple of millimeters, and it stayed on fine. I used Quick Grip glue to attach it to the door.

It has a raised bit at the back, presumably to help it stay on the door & not flake off, but I can’t get it on with my bare hands and don’t want to break it.
