Christmas colors and simple joys

A cold morning, Chet Baker playing Silent Night, and a green pear tree turning red outside my window — a happy Christmas season begins.

Simple joys around my house:

Ivy topiaries for tables (and hostess gifts) from Trader Joe’s:

My sister bought her baby Christmas diapers that look like a Santa suit — belt and all. I have new Christmas soaps from Method that smell like pine trees and candy canes. Sometimes, I love that commercial Christmas is completely out of control.

New black and white wrapping paper (from Target):

A truly brilliant hostess gift I received — Bumble & Bumble’s travel-sized mending kit — perfect for overworked holiday hair. About $35 at Rumors Salon in Scottsdale, or here.

A headband from Gwen Stefani’s new kids collection at Target, which I am wearing myself:

And more than anything, I’m happy for family time with babies I adore:

Note the tiara, and sash.

If you need a little something extra to get you in the mood, this could make you grin like the little girl in my picture:
